Beware other apps using "Anki" in their name that have sprung up recently - they are not compatible with the rest of the Anki ecosystem, and they offer far fewer features. Sales of this app support the development of both the computer and mobile version, which is why the app is priced as a computer application.ĪnkiMobile was written by the lead developer of Anki and AnkiWeb, and it has been around since 2010. With the iPhone, I have it on my dock and I can instantly see if there's a number notification on the app, and spend a couple minutes either on the toilet or waiting for the kettle to boil to get through a few cards.AnkiMobile is a mobile companion to Anki, a powerful, intelligent flashcard program that is free, multi-platform, and open-source. I also have a lot of short steps going into longer steps, so I would find on my MacBook that I would spend a lot of unnecessary time on Anki checking over and over to see if I had reviews coming up, and opening the app (disrupting me from other work) to do two or three cards. I just need to listen, tap, glance, and tap again. This has sped me up SO MUCH, because I'm not looking at the buttons, looking at the keyboard, positioning my hands about. I flip the card with a tap anywhere on the screen, and I mark "Again" by tapping on the left, and "Good" by tapping on the right. There's also options to make the UI as minimal as possible, so on my screen all I need to see is my card. It has just the number of features availble for me to tweak minor things on the fly, but obviously I won't be sitting and editing whole decks from my phone, so I'm not sucked in with that. Well I got some money as a present recently, and as I big nerd I decided to finally pay for Anki Mobile. I was worried on the other end of the scale that it would have zero features, that I would end up back on my MacBook just as often to fiddle with settings, or that my cards wouldn't display properly and that my hard work editing them would be useless. I was worried about paying for the app in case I hated it. as I was actually spending doing the cards themselves. However, for me, I found that I would spend just as much time adding new cards (even when I had reviews backing up), tweaking CSS settings to make them look pretty, looking up new addons. I use my MacBook all day every day and was keeping up with Anki reviews just fine. I'd been going back and forth for weeks over if I should pay for the iOS app. Users that routinely delete their posts once they receive an answer might be excluded from participating on the sub.
